Lin scores 29 as Beijing take 6th straight CBA win (updated)
QINGDAO, China, July 13 (Xinhua) — Jeremy Lin collected 29 points and six assists to help the Beijing Ducks crush the Shanxi Loongs 111-91 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Monday, extending its winning streak to six games and handing Shanxi its third straight loss. “Beijing is a powerhouse of the league and we had a lot of problems defending their key players. We will learn from these lessons,” said Shanxi coach Wang Fei. Lin scored nine points to inspire Beijing to a 22-8 lead after tip off. Shanxi rallied back to cut the deficit to six points as the first quarter ran out and tied the game in the second, but Beijing regained a 15-point lead thanks to 15 points from Ekpe Udoh and seven more from Lin. After pouring several three-pointers, Beijing enlarged their margin to 23 points and forced Shanxi to call a timeout in the third quarter. Broadening the gap from seven to 17 points in the early stage of the last quarter, Beijing maintained the lead until the end, with Fang Shuo grabbing 12 points in the quarter. Besides Lin’s game-high 29 points, Udoh had 21 for Beijing, and Zhai Xiaochuan finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Ren Junwei scored a team-high 24 points for Shanxi, for whom Xing Zhiqiang had 22 and Yuan Shuai added 10. “There were some problems when the young players were rotated on the court, but the team controled the game again in the last quarter,” said Beijing coach Xie Libin.

Government subsidies don’t boost Chinese firms’ productivity
China’s industrial subsidies have caused considerable controversy both internationally and domestically. Trading partners have accused China of unfairly favouring its indigenous firms with subsidies, leaving foreign companies at a disadvantage in the race to lead the technologies of the future.
Governments around the world regularly spend an enormous amount of money subsidising businesses. But few spend like China. A 2022 report suggests that China spends 1.7–5 per cent of its GDP on industrial policies, more than most countries.
