AXA to re-domicile China business to Hong Kong
AXA plans to move its China business registration from Bermuda to Hong Kong, pending approval. This simplifies reporting and compliance, aligning the company with its operational base and Hong Kong’s financial hub status.
Key Points
* AXA plans to re-domicile its China business, ACRIB, from Bermuda to Hong Kong, pending regulatory approval, to simplify reporting and compliance. This move aligns with Hong Kong’s new re-domiciliation regime.
* The change will not impact ACRIB’s legal entity, structure, or operations, preserving existing agreements and rights for policyholders, distributors, and partners. Post-redomiciliation, ACRIB will be renamed AXA China Region Insurance Company (Hong Kong) Limited.
* AXA aims to enhance operational efficiency and reinforce Hong Kong as a financial hub. The move follows AXA’s recent partnership with Ant Bank and AlipayHK to offer insurance via the AlipayHK App.
AXA is planning to re-domicile its China business, AXA China Region Insurance Company (Bermuda) Limited (ACRIB), from Bermuda to Hong Kong, a move contingent upon regulatory approval and driven by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s new company re-domiciliation regime. This strategic shift aims to simplify reporting and compliance processes, enhancing operational efficiency and aligning the company’s registration with its significant geographical presence in the Greater China region. Critically, the re-domiciliation will not impact ACRIB’s legal entity, organizational structure, daily operations, nor will it alter existing policyholder rights, distributor agreements, or business partner obligations.
Following the successful re-domiciliation, ACRIB is slated to be renamed AXA China Region Insurance Company (Hong Kong) Limited, formally establishing its operational base within Hong Kong. AXA believes this move will solidify its commitment to Hong Kong and strengthen the city’s position as an international financial center, insurance hub, and global risk management center. CEO Sally Wan emphasizes that this is more than an administrative change, but a strategic positioning for long-term success within a dynamic market, by leveraging Hong Kong’s robust financial ecosystem and opportunities in the region. In a related development, AXA Hong Kong and Macau recently partnered with Ant Bank and AlipayHK to extend insurance product offerings through the AlipayHK App, illustrating AXA’s ongoing efforts to expand its reach and accessibility within the region.
