Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General and Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized the party’s intent to deepen its geopolitical, economic, and commercial ties with China. His remarks came during a discussion titled “Long Live Bangladesh-China Friendship,” organized by the Bangladesh-China Friendship Association following Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to China.
The event was attended by notable figures including Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, State Minister for Civil Aviation M Rashiduzzaman Millat, and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen. Advocate Nazmul Haque Nannu, President of the Friendship Association, chaired the discussion.
Mirza Fakhrul noted that the prime minister’s visit reinforced bilateral relations, highlighting robust ties with the Communist Party of China. Despite adversities faced during the Awami League regime, communication with China was maintained. Fakhrul asserted the importance of China in Bangladesh’s geopolitical strategy while also expressing a desire to maintain strong economic and political relations with India and the United States.
He underscored the high level of current relations with China, emphasizing the need for Chinese technological aid in infrastructure, solar, and green energy development, along with technical and vocational education for Bangladeshi youth. Fakhrul remained optimistic, citing ideological similarities and mutual business relations, with plans for increased trade.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen introduced initiatives like high-speed rail technology to enhance connectivity between major Bangladeshi cities and assured cooperation in resolving the Rohingya repatriation issue. The ambassador affirmed that Tarique Rahman’s visit marked a new chapter in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
