This agreement was signed during the International Air Transport Association (IATA) North Asia Cargo Day in Guangzhou, marking a significant step for PIK, which has been expanding its role as a UK hub for Asian e-commerce and exports such as Scottish salmon and whisky over the past year.

Jules Matteoni, PIK’s executive director, elaborated on the importance of the agreement, highlighting Prestwick’s strategic position as a crucial cargo gateway. The MoU lays the groundwork for enhanced collaboration between the airports in areas such as cargo development, operational knowledge exchange, and network connectivity. Presently, PIK operates 15 scheduled services weekly to and from mainland China, including routes to CAN and three weekly services to Hong Kong.

This agreement is integral to PIK’s strategy of balancing inbound Asian e-commerce with outbound premium exports, thereby creating a robust and direct cargo model that benefits airlines, forwarders, and shippers alike.
