A high-level industrial business collaboration session held in Dalian, China, has significantly strengthened the economic and trade relationships between Sabah and China. This session was organized by the Malaysia China Chamber of Commerce Sabah (MCCC Sabah) in cooperation with the Dalian Federation of Industry and Commerce, attracting business leaders and investors focused on exploring strategic partnerships. The Sabah delegation was spearheaded by Deputy Chief Minister III, Datuk Ewon Benedick, who emphasized the importance of translating cooperative discussions into tangible outcomes involving resource integration, human capital, and market positioning.
MCCC Sabah’s president, Datuk Dexter Lau, highlighted Sabah’s strategic advantages, such as its location and natural resources, drawing interest from Chinese businesses. The engagement saw the establishment of a sister chamber relationship to enhance long-term cooperation. The session focused on sectors with strong growth potential, including industrial development, logistics, and trade, while promoting youth and cultural exchange programs.
Notably, Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad announced plans to invest an additional RM200 million in Sabah over the next two years. Datuk Lau pointed out that Sabah’s industrial platforms, like the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster, could drive regional industrial cooperation. MCCC Sabah plans to continue facilitating communication between government agencies and businesses, enhancing Sabah’s role in regional economic cooperation.
The official visit included prominent members of MCCC Sabah, such as Deputy President Kapitan Dr. Callee Tan Kai Lee and Vice Presidents Louis Su and Yong Siew Lee, further underscoring the collaborative efforts to expand and solidify Sabah-China business ties.
