This new venture introduces four scheduled cargo flights weekly, with plans to increase to daily services. This development is set to double the current number of scheduled freighter operations at Glasgow Prestwick Airport, positioning it as a crucial logistics hub for international trade.

Ian Forgie, Chief Executive of Glasgow Prestwick Airport, expressed optimism about this new route, emphasizing the past year’s efforts to establish Prestwick as a viable alternative cargo gateway into the UK. He anticipates rapid growth in 2025, particularly for Scottish exports like seafood and whisky, and hinted at further announcements with other airlines.

The airport has recently invested £2.3 million in enhancing equipment and facilities, including ground handling and cool chain supply systems, to support large freighter operations. Colin Dai, the airport’s Country Sales Director for Greater China, highlighted the airport’s strong history in handling wide-bodied freighters and expressed enthusiasm for the partnership’s success.

This agreement not only strengthens trade ties between Scotland and China but also underscores the strategic importance of Glasgow Prestwick Airport in global cargo logistics.
