In a recent address delivered on his behalf in Accra, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, CEO of Engineers and Planners Company Ltd, addressed an audience at the inauguration of the Association of China-Ghana Mining (ACGM) and the China-Ghana Mining LBG Community Development Fund. He called upon Chinese companies to emphasize the superior quality of their products and operations while challenging the prevalent stereotype of Chinese goods being inferior and associated with poor safety and environmental standards. Drawing from his personal experiences with Chinese companies, Mr. Mahama asserted that these perceptions do not universally apply and urged Chinese firms in Ghana to uphold high safety and regulatory standards, using Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd as a positive example.

Furthermore, Mr. Mahama encouraged the Association to embark on an educational initiative aimed at enhancing Ghanaian recognition of the significant contributions made by Chinese enterprises to the nation’s developmental objectives. He advocated for a deeper transfer of technology, knowledge, and innovation by Chinese companies to align with Ghana’s vision of producing high-quality finished goods for the global market. Emphasizing collaboration and respect for Ghana’s localization principles, he expressed confidence that such efforts would yield mutual benefits for both Ghana and the Chinese businesses operating within its borders.

At the same event, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Tong Defa, underscored the importance of sustainable practices by urging Chinese companies to prioritize ecological conservation while conducting operations in Ghana’s mining sector. He called for strict adherence to Ghanaian laws and regulations to foster a positive image of Chinese enterprises and to enhance bilateral cooperation by creating local employment opportunities and adding value to mineral production.

Mr. Tang ZhenJiang, Chairman of ACGM, committed the Association to promoting responsible mining practices, technological innovation, and community-driven development. He highlighted plans to collaborate with Ghana’s Ministries of Lands and Natural Resources and Youth Development to engage the youth, contributing to the government’s anti-illegal mining efforts through the newly established China-Ghana Mining Community Development Fund. This initiative also aims to stimulate job creation and reflect the Association’s commitment to addressing social responsibilities and empowering local communities. Among the Executive members of the Association’s leadership are Mr. Kevin Chen, Mr. Kevin Wu, Mr. Libin Xu, and Mr. Qingming Tang, representing various key companies in Ghana’s mining sector.
